What Are We Doing to Prevent Malaria? This year, we will be providing 4000 long lasting insecticide treated nets to families vulnerable to malaria in rural and urban areas in Zambia. This will keep 13,000-15,000 children or 8,000 adults malaria free as each net can sleep up to four young children or two adults. Currently, we are raising funds to provide an additional 4,000 nets. Please donate generously so we can keep thousands of families safe from malaria. A direct impact of families being malaria free is higher school attendance and performance, and income stability as adults miss fewer days from work.

Why Do We Need Nets?;In 2024, malaria cases climbed to 282 million globally, up from 273 million the previous year. Global deaths rose to 610,000. Young children and African countries are especially vulnerable as the WHO African region accounts for 94% of all cases and 95% of deaths globally. Also, 75% of all malaria deaths in Africa occur in children under the age of five years. According tot he WHO, regular use of long lasting insecticide treated nets is the most cost effective method of preventing malaria.

Why are malaria cases and deaths rising? Some of the reasons for rising malaria cases are emerging biological threats, such as anti-malarial drug resistance, a huge funding gap in malaria prevention, and climate change. However, the good news is that 47 countries are now certified malaria-free by WHO, the malaria vaccine has been integrated in routine childhood immunizations in 24 countries, and newer long lasting insecticide treated nets provide superior protections against resistant mosquitoes.
