February 2026 - You Are Motivating Children and Adults

With your support, our computer lab, launched in one of the largest slums in Lusaka, Zambia, has been running successfully for the past 17 months. The lab continues to provide structured lessons on basic computer skills and access to the internet to school-age children and adults. Over this time period, more than 500 children have learnt basic computer skills that motivate them to stay in school and improve school performance. All students start with learning basic Windows skills and progress to mastering Word, PowerPoint, email, and internet searches. Successful learners receive a certificate on completion. In addition, a few students have started mentoring their peers, allowing us to identify and nurture potential peer educators. Adults are learning to navigate the web and women are learning ways to grow their businesses.

Any investment of funds in this lab provides a significant economic return as adults and children acquire skills that result in better job opportunities and stable incomes. This lab, (the first of its kind anywhere in a slum neighborhood in Luska), is more than about literacy. It brings the world to adults and children and challenges stereotypes of what happens in urban poor neighborhoods in Africa.
