In 2025, in partnership with Rotary clubs in Zambia and California, we were able to provide training and Safe Water Filtration Systems (SWFS) to 700 families living in slum neighborhoods in Lusaka, Zambia. Since then families have been using these SWFS to filter water for their cooking, drinking and other household needs. Last September, we went back to the homes of beneficiaries to discuss the impact of these filtration systems. Here is what we found:

• 87-90% of homes used the SWFS regularly, and maintain/backflush it as demonstrated during training,
• diarrhea, fever, and malaria were much lower amongst families that received the SWFS as compared to non-recipients,
• families found the SWFS easy to use and maintain, and
• families who received the SWFS did not have to boil/chlorinate their water resulting in savings in time and money.

  We strongly believe that any investment in the provision of such SWFS provides a huge economic return as their is a significant improvement in the health of users.
