August 2025 - We Are Inspired by Surinam's Success in Malaria Prevention

Last month, the World Health Organization certified Suriname as malaria-free — the first country in the Amazon region to achieve this. It didn’t happen overnight. It took decades of staying the course, embedding prevention behaviors in communities, and consistent investment in public health. It’s a powerful reminder: when we commit for the long haul, change is possible.
With your help, at Power of Love, we’ve been working in Zambia’s most vulnerable communities for over 20+ years. We have seen what happens when families are supported to adopt simple, life-saving habits - and when those habits stick. Now, we’re even more inspired to double down on our efforts and ensure we eradicate malaria from Zambia. This September. just before the next malaria season, we will provide 10,000 long lasting insecticide-treated bed nets and training to families on how to use them. That’s protection for 35,000 children or 20,000 adults, focused on those most at risk: children under five, pregnant women, people with HIV or TB, and the elderly.
But we don’t want to stop there. We’re raising funds for an additional 10,000 nets, so we can reach twice as many people. When communities have the tools and the knowledge to prevent disease, we see fewer clinic visits, fewer missed school and workdays, income stabilization, and more resilient families.
And there’s something else on the horizon: the malaria vaccine that is now being rolled out across Africa. Vaccines work best when they're paired with strong community prevention efforts. Our bed nets program lays the foundation for that success. It’s not either/or - it’s both. And that’s how we beat malaria. Every $5 provides a net and training to a family. And, as always, 100% of your donations goes directly towards malaria prevention and education — never to overheads.
Will you help us reach 20,000 families this year?
With gratitude,
Your friends at the Power of Love Foundation
