Dear Friend: Happy September! After dodging the first wave of COVID last year, much of southern Africa is struggling under the current wave of this pandemic. From the beginning of the pandemic 18 months ago, our goal has been to keep our communities safe from COVID and to ensure that all children continue with their school studies – even when some of it went online. To build a strong base of understanding in our communities, we launched COVID education workshops specifically designed for children and to educate them on COVID prevention and safety. Through these workshops hundreds of children in the community learned about the importance of hygiene - frequent hand washing with soap, maintaining distance, and the proper way to use masks. These workshops continue to be held in an open safe space and are free to all children from Matero and neighboring communities. As children leave the workshops, we provide them with masks to take home and use.
