Impact of COVID, climate change: In the past 3-4 years, more countries are facing growing levels of food insecurity and lack of income opportunities due to COVID, climate change, and conflict. One solution is to provide income generating skills and loans/financing to these families.
Can we combat climate change and poor health?: Recent studies conclude that the provision of food, clean energy, education, health, water, and sanitation can result in reducing both the impact of climate change and poverty while boosting human well-being.
Malaria in Africa: Since 2000, malaria cases and deaths have been declining in Africa due to the provision of insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) and antimalarial drugs. A decrease in access in either or both would lead to potentially catastrophic increases in malaria morbidity and, mortality within Africa.
Why do children participate in this program? Children from different age groups love this program for different reasons. Younger children attend this program for snacks, toys, and opportunities to play with other kids their age. In the words of a young participant, "I learn a lot.
A recent report by UNAIDS states that during the last two years of COVID and other global crises, progress against HIV prevention has slowed and millions of lives are at risk. In 2021, new HIV infections fell by just 3.6% the smallest drop since 2016. In Asia and the Pacific, new HIV infections are rising where they had been falling for the past 10 years.
What is Safe Park? Power of Love’s COVID education/Safe Park program provides a safe place for children to play and learn. Education on COVID, HIV and malaria prevention, and PPE are provided resulting in improved physical and mental health of hundreds of children and their families. Community members are encouraged to get both shots of the COVID vaccine.
Most women enrolled in Power of Love’s micro loans program are growing their businesses and learning to become successful entrepreneurs. In addition to paying for food, medicines, school expenses for children the women enjoy a stable income, start building assets, and are more self-reliant in taking care of their health and expenses.
