Dear Power of lOve Friend: Happy November!

At Power of Love, we're committed to improving the lives of women in resource-poor communities. Published research consistently shows that enhancing a woman’s health and economic standing creates long-term, positive ripple effects for her children, family, and community.

Our microloans program has provided entrepreneurial training to 700 women this year. Bridget, a previous loan recipient, shared her journey with the new business owners. In her words, “we used to wake up every day searching for work, like washing people’s clothes. Sometimes my children would eat only once a day. It’s heartbreaking to see your children hungry, with nothing to offer them as a parent.” Today, a year after completing business training, Bridget tells us, “my children now eat three meals a day and have finished school. My son is even learning to use a computer.”

With over 20 years of experience, we’ve found that women are natural entrepreneurs and fast learners. More than 90% of our loan participants successfully launch and run businesses after completing training and with support from our loans officers. Within two years, most are running profitable businesses, have built savings and assets, and many go on to mentor new loan recipients. This year, we expanded our work into a new area of Lusaka, Bauleni, where the need for support is huge. Stay tuned for updates from Bauleni!

A Request: As women in these communities become more economically independent, we would like to empower them further by training and engaging them in local democracy—supporting their involvement on grassroots boards, councils, and leadership roles.
