1. Survival rate of 98% for HIV+ infants over a 10-year period

2. Zero new HIV infections: 97% of live births to HIV+ mothers are HIV-free.

As children in our hemisphere step out of summer and get ready for fall, children in Zambia are just emerging from winter and beginning to engage in springtime activities. For the past few weeks, we have seen a growing number of children participate in Power of Love's Safe Park program.

Impact of "Safe Parks" on Children's Health and Wellbeing

Power of Love's "Safe Park" program is located in Matero, one of the largest and poorest compounds in Lusaka, Zambia. The compound has a population of around 275,000, an unemployment rate upwards of 60%, and an exceedingly high incidence of HIV and malaria. Most residents live on less than a dollar a day.

Some Games We Play with the Zambian Children at Safe Parks

Every Saturday afternoon, Power of Love's staff gathers together to play games and help children with homework in Lusaka, Zambia. This afternoon activity is only one of the several pieces of our pediatric HIV care program and is open to all children in the community of Matero, in Lusaka, Zambia.
